The novelist Sharyn McCrumb recently posted a bit about her mystery novel The Songcatcher, which mentions our ancestor, Malcolm McCourry.

In the comments someone asked about Congressional Record testimony. This is Sharyn's explanation.
I don't know why such records were kept in the Congressional Record but I suppose in the 1830s, there wasn't the huge government bureaucracy we have today that tracks military service.
